Goodbye, Eric Adams
Eric Adams is much closer to the end of his time as New York City mayor than he is from the beginning. On day 987 of his term, he lost the lead lawyer he retained, -at taxpayer expense- to defend him from at least 3 legal cases. It was a Saturday night resignation. He’s indefensible.
What triggered this resignation is two-fold. First, a lawyer will fire themselves if they feel they cannot honestly defend their client. Second, what has made defending Adams impossible is the mayor’s refusal to separate himself from his criminal friends and employees. Eric Adams is loyal to the people who are going to get him indicted.
And that indictment appears to be coming soon. Now that the DOJ has multiple devices from multiple top level City Hall officials, including the mayor, the criminal investigations have accelerated. How soon Adams is indicted and with what charges now depend on what data is on his devices as well as the digital devices of 5 other people.
Is Adams an illegal lobbyist for the nation of Türkiye, as I strongly believe he is? Was he involved in any of the bribery and kickback schemes that have been uncovered in the fields of fire code inspection, club and restaurant inspection, COVID testing, migrant sheltering or school lunches?
The DOJ doesn’t apply the brakes when it comes to indicting elected officials at the state or city level. Next year is Adams’ re-election campaign. But he might be indicted well before the June 2025 primary. I think Adams is done. With this many scandals and so many devices seized, it’s just a matter of time before the US Attorney in the busiest DOJ district strikes.
What’s more, no one is defending Eric Adams. No one is falsely claiming that he’s being targeted by President Biden or the DOJ. We’re at the point now that no one will be surprised if he’s indicted. Part of that is due to reckless leaking from the FBI. But part of that is also due to the fact that Adams is the least popular mayor in the post Tammany Hall period. Eric Adams is only the 12th freely elected mayor since the collapse of Tammany Hall. He’s the least liked, the least effective, and soon I think, the second-most criminally charged New York City Mayor since World War 2.
